All the Fun Of The Fair

Stylecraft is delighted to announce a collaboration with designer, Sue Pinner, to bring crocheters a delightfully colourful autumn crochet along.

Sue is a very experienced designer with a huge following on her blog and Facebook.  She learned to crochet when she was about 9 from her best friend’s Gran and made her first rug when she was about 14. She gained her BA in Fashion and Textiles in the 1970’s, became a blogger in 2008 and was asked by GMC Publishing in 2012 to do a beginners crochet book, which turned out to be a best seller. Book 2 came out last year and the work has come in from all over the world, including Stylecraft ever since.

Named the Carousel CAL, the design will launch to the public on 8th August and begins on 13th September on the Stylecraft website, running until the middle of November.

Sue has taken inspiration from fairgrounds, carousels and the circus, translating the bright colour in to this bold blanket: “My very first thought was the red and cream canopies you get with carousels and circuses.”

The project is suitable for intermediate crocheters who have mastered the basic stitches and Sue believes that they will really enjoy the colour combining in motifs and ripples throughout the project: “I have incorporated lots of interesting stitch combinations including front and back post stitch, a shaped hexagon bigger one end that the other, 2 stitch join as you go, popcorn stitch and a colour changing ripple border.”

Although parts of the project have a mystery element, where Sue will reveal different ways to incorporate the motifs, we can tell you that those taking part will revel in some interesting techniques and shapes, including octagons, pentagons and elongated hexagons – a geometric feast.

“We wanted to work with Sue on this project because of her adventurous use of colour. The different styles in her motifs make this CAL such fun to make and treasure,” says Annabelle Hill, Sales and Marketing Director at Stylecraft.

The Carousel CAL will be available in both Special DK and Stylecraft’s new yarn Batik for a more vintage look. Sue will be hosting a special workshop at Stylecraft’s mill on 13th October. Tickets will cost £55 each for a full day workshop with materials and lunch provided and can be booked by telephoning 01484 843732 and asking for Anna.
