Libraries Support UK Hand Knitting’s Commit To Knit Month

UK Hand Knitting, the association for wholesale yarn producers in the UK has unveiled an exciting project to inspire charity knitters and crocheters – Commit To Knit Month – which is taking place throughout June 2016.

Commit to Knit month has grown out of a campaign launched by the organisation in autumn 2015 to encourage knitters and crocheters to make items for charity. “Charities use knitted items in so many ways; to raise much needed funds or awareness, or simply to donate to those less fortunate,” explains a spokesperson from UK Hand Knitting.

UK Hand Knitting has invited libraries across the country to hold an event on or around Worldwide Knit in Public Day on Saturday 18th June. More than 100 have already signed up and there is a special map so that knitters wanting to take part can find an event near to them.

There are a number of patterns on the UK Hand Knitting website which are free to download. “We have carefully selected a range of charities and projects that will appeal to as many knitters and crocheters as possible. Plus because the patterns are for small items, we hope that new knitters and crocheters will be encouraged to take part.”

The list of charities and projects is:

Knit For Peace             Fiddlemuff

RSPCA                         Catnip Toy

Knit A Square              Crochet square
